The air is filled with invisible WiFi signals, whizzing past you at super speeds! With so many different types of WiFi networks, sometimes the Computer Kit needs a little extra help to get connected.
I can't see my network?
Just like a radio, your Computer can tune into different WiFi channels. Your wireless router will usually choose a channel for you and uses it to broadcast the WiFi signal.
Here's a few common fixes for when you can't find your WiFi network.
Changing Channels
In most countries there are 13 channels your wireless router can use. The Computer Kit works really well on channels 1-10.
You can check which channel you are using by logging in to your wireless router. If you are using channels 11-13, changing your channel can help discover missing WiFi networks.
For more help changing channels, contact your broadband provider who should be happy to help!
Dualband WiFi
Modern wireless routers can often broadcast on two different frequency bands (similar to an AM and FM radio!). They're often referred to as 2.4G and 5G networks.
The Computer Kit only picks up signals from the 2.4GHz band. Some routers can mix the 2.4 and 5GHz bands together, which can sometimes confuse the computer.
You should see two networks with similar names (often with 2G or 5G at the end). Always make sure you connect to the 2.4G network. If you only see one network name, contact your broadband provider for help switching on a separate 2.4GHz network.
My WiFi is connected but I can't get online?
If you're in an area where there's lot of WiFi signals, or if your Computer Kit is further away from the router, you might find that your connection is intermittent. In both cases, moving closer to your wireless router can often help improve the connection!
