TV Speakers
If you're using your Computer Kit on your TV, did you know you can use your TV's speakers instead?
Dashboard
From the dashboard, click on the cog wheel to open your settings.
Click on Audio.
Classic Mode
From the desktop, click on the cog wheel icon in the bottom right corner and then click Audio.
Choose TV as the sound output device. Then click apply changes.
When you close Kano Settings, it will ask you to reboot. Do this for your changes to be applied.
That's it! Now use your TV's remote to set the volume and you're ready to go.
External Speakers or Headphones
If the computer monitor or TV that you connect your Computer Kit to does not have audio capabilities, you can use an external set of speakers or headphones to hear sound from your Computer Kit. These speakers or headphones must use a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Light Ring isn't compatible with the headphone socket, so we'll show you the steps you need to follow to remove the Light Ring so you can use your speakers or headphones.
Remove the Light Ring
The Light Ring uses special software that updates the light colors hundreds of times a second. This actually makes a sound that you can hear through your speakers, so we'll need to remove it to use the headphone socket.
Open the lid of your Computer Kit case and carefully lift the Light Ring off of the pins of the Raspberry Pi Brain, making sure not to bend any of them!
Reboot Your Computer Kit
From the Dashboard, click on the power button in the bottom left and select Reboot.
Connect Your Speakers or Headphones
While your Computer Kit is rebooting, connect your headphones or speakers to the 3.5mm headphone socket next to the HDMI port.
Change Audio
We're almost there! Once your Computer Kit has rebooted, open Settings from the dashboard:
Click Audio and then change the TV setting to Speaker, then click Apply Changes:
That's it! You're ready to use your external speakers or headphones with your Computer Kit.
