Has an update caused something to go wrong with your computer? Don't worry, we can help get your computer up and running in just a few minutes.
What went wrong?
The most common cause of problems with updates is when the kit is unplugged before it is completed. It's important not to unplug in the middle of an update to prevent this from happening! Other things that can go wrong include interruptions to your wi-fi while the update was downloading.
How can I fix it?
The first thing to try is to turn your computer back on again. Starting in OS v3.15, the OS has a new recovery tool that tries to finish the update for you.
If this doesn't work, or you are running an older version, you'll need to reinstall the OS. Don't worry, it will only take a few minutes! Head over to this handy guide for the details about how this works.
The OS is made up of a lot of programs. And these programs are made up of bundles of code called packages. The updater updates each of these packages. It is often working on lots of packages at once. If you unplug while this is happening, then you can potentially leave up to hundreds of these packages unstable!
