Can I play with 2 Sensors at once?
Yes! As long as you have USB ports available, you can add as many Motion Sensor Kits as you’d like. Use them together for multiplayer games, to create orchestras, and keep two hands busy.
What is the recommended age for the Motion Sensor Kit?
The Motion Sensor Kit can be enjoyed by everyone, beginners and experienced makers of all ages. Typically, we recommend a starting point for beginners aged 6+, but children who can read/write might start earlier.
Is adult supervision necessary with the Motion Sensor Kit?
Children aged 6-8 years may need some parental supervision, reading the storybook, and assembling the components. Other than that, no... unless adults in the room want to learn more about code!
How does it work?
The Motion Sensor Kit measures distance and direction. It knows how close your hand (or other objects) is and turns this into data a computer can understand. The sensor connects to Mac, PC, Kano Computer Kit, and Pixel Kit.
Do I need a Kano Computer Kit to use the Motion Sensor Kit?
No, you don’t need a Kano Computer Kit. But you do need a computer.
How do I set it up?
First, build your own Motion Sensor Kit, guided by a storybook included in the box. Then plug your Kit into the USB port of your computer (Kano, Mac, Windows) and download the Kano app.
Does it need to be connected to the internet?
Yes. An internet connection is needed in order to download the Kano app for the first time, to use the app, and to control your Motion Sensor Kit.
What is the range of the Motion Sensor Kit's sensor?
The Motion Sensor Kit has a sensor that can detect movement up to 30cm (about 12in) away.
How do I learn to code with the Motion Sensor Kit?
The Motion Sensor Kit includes several ready-made projects that teach you how to code, including apps, games, and step-by-step coding challenges.
What language do you code in?
To build your creations, you will be using event-based block coding, which is a great introduction to real life code with the simple use of blocks. You can also look at the code you have created in JavaScript.
Can I create my own projects?
Yes, you can create your own projects. The Motion Sensor Kit gives you all the tools you need to start making your own music, games, animations, and art. You can also share your creations so others can remix them and make them their own.
